Job Title: General Transportation Technician

Join the Texas Department of Transportation team as a General Transportation Technician and play a vital role in maintaining the state's transportation infrastructure. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to transportation maintenance, including inspecting traffic control devices, maintaining construction project records, and operating heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications and safety laws.
  • Maintain construction project records and process related paperwork.
  • Operate heavy equipment, such as motor graders, excavators, and bulldozers, to perform roadway maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Identify, repair, and install signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and posts.
  • Assist in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites and assist stranded motorists as required.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
  • 1 year of experience in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License within 90 calendar days from date of employment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
