SENIOR PROCESS ENGINEER (STARSHIP)

We are seeking skilled professionals for the role of Senior Process Engineer within the Starship heat shield engineering division. This position offers the chance to apply your expertise and innovative thinking to the rapid design, construction, and integration of advanced systems necessary for the mass production of Starship heat shield tiles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design, construction, and integration of efficient and cost-effective production systems for the heat shield tile manufacturing process.
  • Develop manufacturing systems based on a comprehensive understanding of mechanical and fluid dynamics.
  • Leverage knowledge in chemistry, materials science, and automation controls to ensure the successful implementation of production processes.
  • Create detailed models of mechanical assemblies, fluid routing, and facility layouts using CAD software.
  • Generate and issue precise manufacturing drawings, schematics, and operational instructions for production and fabrication.
  • Specify and select components, including sensors, valves, pumps, piping, and tanks, and provide detailed specifications for procurement.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison for equipment and system vendors, ensuring compliance with system requirements and timelines.
  • Oversee system integration and activation schedules, adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Collaborate in the field, leading skilled technician teams or contractors.
  • Draft procedures for system activation, manufacturing operations, and preventive maintenance.
  • Support the design and implementation of control systems for heat shield material production in collaboration with the automation and controls team.
  • Deliver innovative solutions within your areas of responsibility with minimal supervision.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, or manufacturing engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in integration, design, or construction within aerospace, industrial, chemical, or materials manufacturing sectors.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7+ years of experience in integration, design, or construction within aerospace, industrial, chemical, or materials manufacturing sectors.
  • Hands-on experience with fluid or mechanical systems in a professional environment.
  • Proven expertise in the design, construction, and operation of hazardous processing equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in activating and commissioning industrial production systems.
  • Proficiency in using Siemens NX, SOLIDWORKS, or similar CAD software.
  • Experience in drafting and updating piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Familiarity with SQL or similar database systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems (such as PLCs).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in conveying technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, autonomous, and demanding work environment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Flexibility to work typical 50-hour weeks, which may vary based on operational needs.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
  • Physical capabilities include lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Senior: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year.

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one component of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, including company stock, stock options, or cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and opportunities to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks are also provided. You may accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays each year. Exempt employees are entitled to 5 days of sick leave annually.
