Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled School Nurse to join our team at Harlem Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional medical treatment to students, detecting physical problems, and administering medication as prescribed by healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical treatment to students, including administering medication and treatment prescribed by healthcare providers
  • Detect physical problems and conduct health evaluations
  • Assist teachers in promoting health and nutrition education and immunization programs
  • Coordinate vision screenings and refer students and parents to primary care providers as needed
  • Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students requiring nursing intervention
  • Report to parents, school personnel, healthcare providers, and other agencies on student health matters
  • Administer emergency aid to students and school staff in accordance with established first aid procedures
  • Implement board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with communicable diseases
  • Assist school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools
  • Educate and train staff on health-related topics, including asthma, life-threatening allergies, diabetes, and blood-borne pathogens
Requirements
  • Proper licensure from the State of Montana
  • Ability to obtain licensure to teach First Aid and CPR
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, staff, and the general public
  • Ability to interpret a variety of written or oral instructions

Work Environment

The School Nurse will work in a school setting, regularly working inside and occasionally traveling to other sites. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Physical Demands

The School Nurse will be required to sit frequently, walk and stand occasionally, twist at the neck, bend at the waist, and reach. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.

Mental/Motor Demands

The School Nurse will frequently exercise flexibility, work within time constraints, and maintain attentiveness intensity. The employee will be involved in social interactions that require oral and written communications.
