CORE JOB SUMMARY

The UMMG Staff Physician is responsible for delivering comprehensive medical care to patients, ensuring accurate documentation in accordance with medical staff protocols. This role involves patient assignments aligned with the physician's educational background, expertise, or experience.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Formulates and implements a detailed medical treatment strategy that encompasses biological, psychological, and sociocultural aspects.
• Conducts thorough physical evaluations of patients with professionalism and respect.
• Prescribes appropriate medical treatments and medications to patients.
• Collects essential and precise information through reviewing relevant records and engaging with patients, their families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Reports to the supervising physician and adheres to policy co-sign requirements.
• Identifies and reports hazardous conditions, equipment failures, and deficiencies in supplies to the relevant personnel.
• Documents all Quality Assurance (QA) incidents, including medication errors, to the supervising physician following departmental protocols.
• Takes initiative in enhancing knowledge and skills by participating in continuing education opportunities.
• Makes informed decisions regarding interventions based on patient data, preferences, current scientific evidence, and clinical judgment.
• Ensures confidentiality of all patient information in compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Follows University and departmental policies and procedures while safeguarding University resources.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in a relevant discipline.

Certification and Licensing:

Board certification in the relevant specialty.

Experience:

A minimum of three years of relevant experience.

• Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
• Capability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Skill in analyzing, organizing, and prioritizing tasks under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Department Specific Functions

Provides on-call coverage during holidays and weekends for Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital.
