Mechanics Bank is seeking a highly skilled BSA/AML Investigations Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our Financial Crimes department, you will play a critical role in identifying and mitigating financial risks associated with money laundering, terrorist financing, and other illicit activities.
Key Responsibilities- Transaction Monitoring and Analysis: Review and analyze account and customer transactional activity to identify potential suspicious activity, ensuring accurate and timely submission of all required reports.
- Investigative Techniques: Apply critical thinking skills and experience to provide a thorough and comprehensive narrative justifying the decision to forward to the Investigations Team for further review or to file a SAR.
- Research and Due Diligence: Utilize bank systems and publicly available search engines to validate identities, research individual backgrounds, and obtain information on transactional counterparties.
- Business Partner Relationships: Develop and maintain professional-level communication with business partners to enhance the ability to obtain customer information critical in making determinations on customer risk to the bank.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Maintain disciplines in consistently following current processes, procedures, and policies ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements regarding timely, accurate, and thorough investigations.
- Interactions with Law Enforcement: Interact with Federal, State, and Local law enforcement agencies in receiving and providing critical investigative and case elements that can be used in prosecuting elements of a crime.
- Professional Development: Continuously learn and develop new skills that are transferable to other areas of the department and can provide additional bench strength for the team.
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of banking or other financial services experience preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills: Develop a thorough knowledge of anti-money laundering regulatory requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act, Office of Foreign Asset Control, USA PATRIOT Act, and related requirements.
- Technical Skills: Obtain and maintain a proficiency with bank and FIU applications, including Surveillance Monitoring, Investigations, and Case Management platforms, Customer Onboarding and Customer Risk Rating platforms, Sanctions Screening Utilities, and other applications.
- Investigative Skills: Develop investigative skills in analysis of transactional activity that are indicative of unusual cash structuring, ACH-related transactions, wire alerts, loan activity, and activity that appears unrelated to stated business purposes.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Develop comprehensive narrative to cases involving National Security Letters, Law Enforcement or Judiciary Requests, External Media cases, 314(a) positive matches, Internal referrals, 314(b) requests, EDD referrals, International wires to/from bank in designated High Risk Country, OFAC Sanctions screening alerts, and at the discretion of the Investigations manager.
- Professional Certifications: FFIEC BSA/AML Investigations Manual, Enhanced Due Diligence, Customer Due Diligence, and Customer Risk Rating, Information Sharing, Government Reporting, Applying Risk-based Analysis and Reporting Methodologies, and Understanding of BSA/AML Compliance and Risk Best Practices.
The final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant, along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
