The Sports Field Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in the transformation of the Protective Stadium field for a variety of athletic and entertainment occasions.
Key Responsibilities
The specialist is expected to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and proficient execution of the following tasks:
- In-depth knowledge of sports turf upkeep techniques, methodologies, and machinery.
- Management of the installation and removal of flooring, retractable seating, and staging apparatus.
- Expertise in operating hydraulic machinery with precision, essential for assembling the playing surface, including but not limited to; paint scrubbing devices, airless paint applicators, paint removal systems, forklifts, ATVs, and other relevant equipment.
- Support field transitions between events, which may include painting, cleaning, grooming, replenishing infill, clearing debris, and managing the setup and takedown of goal posts and nets.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on all field-related machinery according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
- Regularly inspect and catalog equipment to ensure functionality and readiness.
- Efficiently utilize labor, materials, supplies, and machinery.
- Organize tasks to maximize resource efficiency and adhere to project timelines.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as necessary.
- Oversee and manage the inventory of field maintenance tools and supplies.
- Assist in the arrangement of tables, chairs, tents, stages, signage, and other setups as required.
- Move and position equipment within the facility as needed.
- Respond promptly to inquiries from management, vendors, event coordinators, and team members.
- Perform minor repairs on equipment and engines as necessary.
- Maintain accurate work records and documentation as required.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned.
Work Environment
The work environment is dynamic and moderately demanding, requiring adaptability in a fast-paced setting. Duties are primarily conducted outdoors, with regular exposure to wet and humid conditions as well as varying weather elements.
Physical Requirements
The role necessitates prolonged periods of standing and walking, with moderate physical exertion including walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance, while maintaining balance is essential. Flexibility to reach above shoulder height and the capability to push and pull for short durations are required. Visual acuity, speech recognition, and clarity are necessary. Essential motor skills are needed to operate equipment utilized in sports turf management, including forklifts.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time role; work hours must be adaptable and varied to accommodate the facility's event schedule. Availability for extended and/or irregular hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, is essential.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience and knowledge in turf or field maintenance or a similar role is preferred.
- Familiarity with sports turf maintenance operations and/or small engine repair is advantageous.
- A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required; trade or technical school training in a related field is preferred.
- A valid State of Alabama Driver License is mandatory.
