Position Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is tasked with delivering expert nursing care to patients and their families, adhering to established protocols and standards. This role involves collaborating with healthcare providers and team members to coordinate patient care in a dynamic environment. The Clinical Nurse Specialist also serves as a resource and oversees the daily operations of the department, including the supervision of support staff.

Key Responsibilities:

URGENT CARE DUTIES:
  • Utilizes evidence-based practices and the nursing process to provide patient-centered care for both urgent and non-urgent conditions.
  • Collects comprehensive patient histories and current symptoms to effectively consult and collaborate with healthcare providers in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
  • Supervises care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants in the urgent care setting.
  • Accountable for delegating and coordinating care for urgent care patients.
  • Competently performs approved technical procedures as required in the clinical setting.
  • Proactively addresses the individual needs of patients and their families during service delivery, ensuring timely communication of identified needs.
  • Conducts triage assessments and escalates emergencies as necessary.
  • Engages in quality improvement initiatives to uphold the highest standards of patient care.
  • Maintains accurate daily logs and ensures emergency equipment is ready for use.
  • Conducts initial and ongoing assessments to monitor changes in patients' physical and psychosocial needs.
  • Effectively manages patient communications, including phone inquiries and lab result notifications.
  • Educates patients and caregivers regarding follow-up care.
  • Assists in preparing patients for complex procedures and treatments.
DOCUMENTATION:
  • Ensures timely and accurate patient charting in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provides clinical guidance to support staff.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Applies infection control principles in all aspects of care delivery.
  • Complies with health and safety policies.
  • Manages inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Participates in ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Assists in onboarding and training new staff members.
  • Ensures all clinical equipment is maintained in a clean and functional state.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum education: Associate's degree; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum experience: 1 year in an Emergency or Critical Care environment.
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Must obtain additional state licensure within a specified timeframe post-hire.
  • Required to maintain active RN licenses in all relevant states.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS certification needed upon hire.
  • IV certification preferred.
  • Competency skill checklist to be completed within the first three months of employment.
