Job Overview

Wild Coffee Human Resources is excited to collaborate with a leading civil engineering and land surveying firm in Massachusetts. We are currently seeking a dedicated Land Survey Chief who will oversee and assess surveying assignments, manage logistics, and direct crew responsibilities on a daily basis.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to determine the most effective strategies to meet project goals and communicate these plans clearly to the team. A crucial aspect of this role involves maintaining effective communication with clients, ensuring that the deliverables meet their expectations. The Land Survey Chief will be responsible for regularly reporting to the office to gather necessary documentation, field books, and supplies, as well as coordinating with the instrument operator as required for site meetings or other locations. This position demands full accountability for all surveying equipment in use and a commitment to learning additional functionalities and techniques for utilizing Total Stations and data collectors with support from office staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a leader, mentor, and example for the surveying team in the field.
  • Collaborate effectively with field partners and office personnel, taking guidance from various project managers, surveyors, and CAD technicians involved in preparing staking data or reconnaissance documentation.
  • Conduct survey calculations utilizing data collectors with uploaded point files.
  • Occasionally perform research at municipal offices or registries for essential records such as maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents.
  • Transfer electronic raw data from the data collector, scan field notes in the office, and update field book indexing systems.

Qualifications:

  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience, particularly with Total Stations and data collectors.
  • Experience in highway and bridge construction surveying.
  • Familiarity with laser scanning operations and equipment is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success in time management and supervising team members.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Experience with topographic, roadway, utility, right-of-way, and ALTA surveys is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's license.
  • Completion of coursework in Land Surveying or Engineering is desirable.
