Facilities Management is tasked with ensuring the optimal functioning of campus buildings, grounds, and utility systems, fostering a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment conducive to academic and research activities.

This department employs a diverse team of approximately 325 professionals, ranging from custodial staff to skilled tradespeople and engineers, overseeing more than 150 buildings and extensive grounds.


Responsibilities:


The Plant Operations and Maintenance team is primarily responsible for the management, upkeep, and repair of the Central Plant and associated utility systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of various equipment, including combustion turbine generators, steam turbine generators, and high-pressure boilers.
  • Maintaining detailed records of equipment performance and maintenance activities.
  • Providing exceptional customer service and emergency support to the campus community.
  • Assisting in the development and execution of preventive maintenance programs to ensure reliable operations.

The role also encompasses additional operational and maintenance tasks as required.



Qualifications:


Compensation includes a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance the work experience at UCI.

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A valid unlimited Steam Operating Engineering License within six months of hire.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
  • Experience with various equipment maintenance, including vacuum pumps and air compressors.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in rigging and heavy equipment handling.
  • Ability to perform pipe fitting and align mechanical components.
  • Experience with Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for central plant and building mechanical systems.

Candidates should also demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.


Preferred:
Possession of a Turbine Endorsement on the Steam Operating Engineer License and E.P.A. Certified Universal Technician Licenses are advantageous. Familiarity with university policies and procedures is also preferred.
Special Conditions:
Compliance with safety protocols and the ability to work in various environmental conditions are essential. Candidates must possess a valid California Driver's License and be available for scheduled and unscheduled overtime as needed.
