• Guarantees the quality of work performed by all team members. Coordinates services to clients in a manner that ensures satisfaction and operational efficiency.
• Ensures compliance with CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, safety, and other regulatory standards, including the privacy and security of health information (PHI).
• Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the collection area and restocks supplies as needed.
• Responsible for the procurement of departmental supplies in collaboration with the team lead.
• Conducts all phlebotomy duties, including specimen collection, reception, and dispatch.
• Prepares specimens for external laboratory referrals, including ordering tests, packaging specimens, arranging transportation, and managing referral documentation.
• Performs all patient specimen collections, which may include venipuncture, capillary collection, urine drug screening, skin tests, and cultures.
• Ensures that specimen requirements are fulfilled at the time of collection and maintains specimen integrity.
• Demonstrates effective communication skills by interacting competently with clients, patients, family members, nursing staff, physicians, and colleagues.
• Operates the laboratory information system to document specimen details, patient registration, order entry, collection lists, and other assigned tasks.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned (stand-by/on-call, inventory management, special projects, cross-training, etc.).
• Completes performance evaluations and annual competency assessments for associates in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
• High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Completion of a Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory, or Medical Assistant program that includes phlebotomy is preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, data entry, and organizational skills is essential.
Experience:
• A minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience is preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
• Certification from a Nationally Accredited Program is preferred.
