Wound Care Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Wound Nurse to join our team at Fredericksburg Health and Rehab. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and providing accurate, consistent treatment procedures as ordered by the residents' attending physician and monitoring current practices and procedures within the facility.
Key Responsibilities- Document the resident's condition and nursing needs
- Accurately and promptly implement physicians' orders
- Conduct weekly skin audits on all residents
- Document wound care log and nurse's notes, including measurements, treatments, and response to treatment
- Assign nursing care to team members in accordance with the resident's needs and the person's capabilities and qualifications
- Perform treatments for assigned residents and document as required by regulations
- Participate in orientation and in-service training for personnel
- Assist physicians with special tests and procedures within the scope of state specified Nursing Practice Act
- Ensure adequate supplies are available to personnel who perform procedures involving exposure to blood or body fluids
- Monitor nursing service to ensure they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies
- Ensure all nursing work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner
- Ensure all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean and safe manner
- Participate in the review and revision of care plans and assessments as necessary, but at least quarterly
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of an ongoing Quality Assurance Program for the nursing department as pertaining to Wound Care Management
- Contact families of residents with skin treatments on a weekly basis with an update
- Ensure Medical Director and Director of Nursing are made aware of wounds that are not responding to treatment weekly
- Consult with RD, Dietary Manager, and PT on complicated wound healing
- Oversee the facility Infection Control Program, to ensure each infection is monitored and follow-up labs as ordered
- Prepare the monthly infection control report with tracking and trends
- Ensure supplies are utilized economically and that equipment is clean and maintained in a safe manner
- Report and record pertinent observations and reactions regarding residents
- Coordinate nursing care of residents when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments
- Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in residents
- Perform other tasks as assigned
- Promote interpersonal relationships and develop staff morale
- Answer resident call lights and ensure all residents are checked frequently
- Report any suspected abuse to the Director of Nursing/Administrator immediately
- Graduate of accredited LPN/LVN School of Nursing or RN School of Nursing
- Valid RN license
- Valid CPR certification
- Wound care certification preferred
- One year experience in nursing preferred
- Skilled in motivating and directing the workforce
- Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the facility
- Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations
- Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Solicit resident/family feedback to understand their needs and the needs of the community
- Work efforts reflect a passion for exceeding customer expectations
