Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Detention Deputy at the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office. As a Detention Deputy, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our community by ensuring the proper care and custody of inmates.

Key Responsibilities

• Admit and release persons committed to the detention facility following legal applications.
• Place inmates under confinement in cells or other jail areas as directed.
• Responsible for the care, feeding, and general welfare of inmates while confined.
• Conduct fire or disaster drills to ensure the safety of inmates and staff.
• Maintain order and security of the facility and maintain the area of assignment in a clean, sanitary, and orderly manner.
• Assign and direct inmates in work detail as required.
• Exercise reasonable and/or special care of action as needed or directed, in handling special or unusual inmates or other emergency situations.
• Check inmates and cell areas for contraband, escape attempts, unauthorized articles, weapons, etc.
• Search and remove all unauthorized articles or contraband of incoming prisoners.
• Maintain logs and records.
• Testify in court or appear as a witness.
• Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or GED.
• Completion of minimum requirements as set out in Section 943.13, Florida Statutes.
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hiring and maintain said license throughout employment.
• Must possess active Florida Corrections Standards.
