Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Park Guide to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Interior. As a Park Guide, you will be responsible for providing exceptional visitor services and ensuring that our park visitors have a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors on a variety of subjects, including park history, geology, and wildlife.
  • Lead groups and provide services to visitors, including guided tours and educational programs.
  • Present pre-established talks and exhibits to visitors, including introductions to films and map talks.
  • Guide individuals and groups around the park, maintaining a pace that allows visitors to keep up and ensuring that all prescribed practices are followed.
  • Provide a wide range of services to visitors, including assistance with lost articles, car trouble, and local destinations.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Appointment is subject to a background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
  • Complete the initial online assessment and USAHire Assessment, if required.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • May be required to operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties.
  • Must wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards.
  • May be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • Must complete a one-year probationary period if new to the Federal government or as a supervisor.
  • Travel is not anticipated but may occur on rare occasions.
Qualifications

Applicants must be at least 18 years old or meet one of the following requirements:

  • Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school.
  • Have completed a formal vocational training program.
  • Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education.
  • Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked.

To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service.
  • Successful completion of at least a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation.
  • Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above.

Volunteer experience is also eligible for consideration. Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
