About the Role

As a Histotechnician at AdventHealth, you will play a vital role in the laboratory team, responsible for processing specimens for pathologic diagnosis, tissue fixation, and preparing slides for microscopic examination by the pathologist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analytical activities related to specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, cover slipping, and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical, and body fluid specimens.
  • Prepare specimens for research requests and transport specimens to/from collection sites, ensuring compliance with federal/state/regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure special stains are performed on tissues as needed and maintain solutions and documents quality control.
  • Follow established procedures to collect and process biological specimens for analysis and register, order, and accession pathology specimens into computer systems.
  • Adhere to safety requirements, handle and dispose of chemicals, and demonstrate understanding and adherence to Chemical Hygiene and Infection Control policies.
Requirements
  • High-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree or Technical degree in a related field preferred.
  • One year of technical experience as a Histology technician/technologist in a Histology laboratory setting.
  • Histotechnician (HT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent, as required by respective state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification if applicable to facility.
