We are seeking a highly skilled Aerothermal Engineer to join our team at Relativity Space. As a key member of our Integrated Performance team, you will be responsible for developing and executing CFD analyses to solve novel challenges in vehicle entry heating and supersonic retropropulsion.

You will drive the design of major Terran R system elements, such as fins, flaps, heat shields, and primary structure, to meet criteria for temperature and heating. Additionally, you will guide and mentor responsible hardware engineers to ensure hardware meets aerothermal requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing CFD analyses to solve novel challenges in vehicle entry heating and supersonic retropropulsion
  • Driving the design of major Terran R system elements to meet criteria for temperature and heating
  • Guiding and mentoring responsible hardware engineers to ensure hardware meets aerothermal requirements
  • Maturing Relativity's tools for developing and communicating aerothermal data

To be successful in this role, you should have significant compressible flow, CFD, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) experience, as well as a proven track record of completing projects successfully in a highly collaborative environment.

About You

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Aerothermal Engineer who is passionate about aerospace technology and additive manufacturing. You should have a graduate degree in engineering or a related field and 5+ years of relevant experience.

Key qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in compressible flow and CFD, preferably on entry vehicles
  • Experience architecting and executing CFD workflows for external or internal flows, preferably including engine plume simulation
  • Direct experience with thermal analysis and heat transfer simulations
  • Experience solving complex problems on integrated vehicles
  • Proficiency in Python and industry-standard CFD tools like FUN3D and Star-CCM+, including use of HPC clusters
