Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Dentist to lead our dental health program. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and administering a comprehensive dental health program, ensuring that department expenditures are within allocated budget, and that department supplies and equipment are ordered and purchased.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and administer a comprehensive dental health program
  • Oversee department expenditures and ensure they are within allocated budget
  • Ensure department supplies and equipment are ordered and purchased
  • Assign work to subordinates, approve leave, prepare performance plans, administer discipline, resolve grievances and complaints, and provide training and awards
  • Initiate Human Resources actions for vacant positions, interview and select candidates
Requirements
  • Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
  • One or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments
Working Conditions

The selected individual will be required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Benefits

Federal employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.
