POSITION SUMMARY: Provides compassionate care for residents in the retirement and nursing community under the supervision of nursing and medical personnel by performing the following responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks are typical for this role. This list is not exhaustive; additional duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Responds to signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to assess residents' needs.
  • Assists residents with bathing, dressing, and undressing.
  • Serves meals and collects food trays, aiding residents who require assistance with eating.
  • Transports residents or provides support for residents to walk.
  • Prepares residents for examinations and treatments, assisting with instruments and lighting as necessary.
  • Repositions bedbound residents to prevent pressure sores, either independently or with help.
  • Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors, and answers phone calls.
  • Records vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates, along with food and fluid intake and output, as instructed.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of treatment supplies, including sterilizing and preparing dressing packs and treatment trays.
  • Ensures the living spaces of residents are tidy and well-maintained.
  • Delivers care in alignment with the ethical and religious directives of the Catholic faith and Catholic social teaching.

Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS: To succeed in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Educational Requirements and Experience:

  • Certification as a nurse aide in the state of Kansas.
  • Preferred: One year of experience in a long-term care environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Language Ability: Proficient in communicating effectively in both written and spoken forms in the primary language of the residents. Capable of reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups.

Mathematical Skills: Competent in basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Cognitive Demands: Able to apply common sense to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Capable of addressing problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: Proficient in responding to computerized logs and notifications regarding resident calls. Able to operate general office and healthcare equipment.
