Job Title: Engineer II

Puget Sound Energy is seeking a highly skilled Engineer II to join our team. As a key member of our Transmission team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and implementing innovative solutions to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of energy to our customers.

Job Summary:

The Engineer II will be responsible for preparing engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, cost estimates, system studies, and other evaluations under minimal supervision. You will interpret and apply existing guidelines, engineering principles, practices, and theories to complete assignments with many interrelated elements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare studies and analyses to develop and justify capacity and reliability projects for the electric transmission system.
  • Run power system simulation, modeling, and analysis using advanced power system analysis programs.
  • Work on projects that are often composed of many interrelated elements.
  • Interpret requirements and application of company and industry standards, guidelines, and methods.
  • Apply engineering principles, practices, theories, and create and review cost estimates, and provide economic analysis for project alternatives.
  • Plan and develop project budgets with appropriate documentation.
  • Identify potential areas of weakness with assigned work, and initiate corrective action.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and design requirements.
  • Support emergency response work as requested, including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • May coordinate the work of engineering assistants, technicians, or others who assist in specific assignments (including contractors/consultants).
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil, or other appropriate engineering field.
  • Experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating, and scheduling (typically achieved after 3 or more years of practice as a degreed engineer).
  • Organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with both internal and external customers on projects.
  • Familiarity with codes and equipment utilized in the design and operation of utility systems.
  • Experience in transmission planning and operations is desired.
  • Experience in transmission design, maintenance, and protection and controls is desirable.
  • Experience with coordinating external consultants in the execution of a project.
  • Possession of EIT certificate and ability to acquire PE license.
  • Knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices.

Puget Sound Energy offers a competitive compensation and rewards package, including a pay range of $76,500.00-$127,200.00, and eligibility for annual goals-based incentive bonuses. We also offer a suite of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, basic life, and short- and long-term disability insurance, as well as a 401(k) investment option and a cash balance retirement plan. Employees will also receive Paid Time Off (PTO) and Paid Holidays throughout the calendar year.
