Overview

Bruker OST specializes in the production of advanced superconducting materials, serving as a premier supplier to the healthcare sector.

The Head of Superconducting Innovations will leverage their expertise to prioritize and spearhead the development of new superconducting products, oversee supplier enhancement initiatives, introduce new offerings, and manage complex troubleshooting and corrective action processes.

As a senior leader, this role will also play a crucial part in shaping strategic direction, developing financial models, and fulfilling various business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic: Lead and prioritize technology and product development initiatives focused on low-temperature superconductors, specifically Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn systems.

Build and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers to address technical challenges related to product manufacturing, cost, and application.

Support various business functions to achieve customer satisfaction and business goals.
Manage departmental budgets effectively and foster the development of technical personnel while overseeing performance and succession planning.
Seek external funding to support innovative product initiatives.

Tactical: Establish and manage short-, mid-, and long-term objectives. Conduct business review meetings with key stakeholders to evaluate risks, discuss future strategies, and identify opportunities for new products, cost reduction, and enhancements.

Maintain strong working relationships with other managers within the organization and establish connections with key customers, suppliers, and collaborators.

Strategic: Drive the development of new technologies or products that meet stakeholder expectations, focusing on market share and financial metrics such as gross margin and quality costs.

Generate intellectual property, including patent applications.

Ensure customer satisfaction by aligning product development with their needs, as evidenced by external funding and technical partnerships.

Demonstrate effective strategic planning and execution.
Tactical: Assess the practicality and effectiveness of proposals.
Promote commonality in processes and components.
Collaborate with key stakeholders to clarify specifications and expectations.
Qualifications

A Ph.D. in materials science, physics, or a related field is essential, along with experience in applied superconductivity.
A proven track record in technology and product development, including publications in peer-reviewed journals, is required.
Ideal candidates will possess extensive experience in superconductor development and manufacturing within a lean production environment.

Given the seniority of this position, a minimum of 10 years in technical and/or operational management is expected.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are crucial.

The ability to synthesize information from diverse sources to focus on root cause analysis of complex issues is necessary.

Capability to formulate and manage long-term strategic plans while also engaging in hands-on problem-solving as required to address urgent technical and operational challenges.

Strong facilitation skills, including leading cross-functional teams and problem-solving capabilities, are essential. Experience in development and performance management within a matrixed organization is preferred.

Willingness to travel globally, occasionally, and as needed to gain a comprehensive understanding of products and processes to inform development, enhancement, and troubleshooting efforts.
