The Lactation Specialist demonstrates advanced breastfeeding knowledge and skills in the care of families and newborns. Each breastfeeding consultation requires specialized skills. The delivery of care is based on criteria that is age appropriate and is based on the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety, and learning needs of the family and newborn. The Lactation Specialist is responsible for the coordination of Lactation services in the hospital; provides inpatient consultation and telephone follow up; and serves as a resource to medical and nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert breastfeeding guidance and support to families and newborns.
- Coordinate Lactation services in the hospital, ensuring seamless care delivery.
- Offer inpatient consultation and telephone follow-up to families and newborns.
- Serve as a resource to medical and nursing staff, providing education and support on breastfeeding best practices.
- Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license.
- Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Completion of certified lactation program.
- IBCLC certified preferred.
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
- Minimum 2 – 3 years clinical experience in Perinatal nursing, including work with breastfeeding mothers and babies.
- Demonstrated expertise in breastfeeding support and education.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.
