At STV, we are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Structural Engineer to join our Transportation Division.

This individual will be responsible for performing design of new and rehabilitation of bridges and structures, quality assurance, and mentoring staff.

The work will include highway bridges, railroad bridges, and transportation facilities structures in one of our New Jersey offices - Lawrenceville or Newark.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in strategic project pursuits.
  • Participate in negotiations to secure contract awards.
  • Design & analysis of new and existing bridges, including rehabilitation design, and transportation facilities.
  • Perform Quality Assurance on Transportation Projects.
  • Contract Document production, including drawings and specifications.
  • Bridge load ratings.
  • Review of construction phase submittals.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license (PE) in the state of NJ is required.
  • Other regional state PE's are acceptable.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of structures design for both bridges and ancillary structures on both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build projects and programs.
  • Experience with conceptual through final analysis and design of new steel and concrete bridges of various types and configurations from simple short spans to long span or complex structures and/or movable bridges and other transportation (vehicular, rail, and pedestrian) structural systems.
  • Evaluation of bridges and transportation structures (vehicular, rail and transit facilities) and the identification and prioritization of repairs.
  • Analysis and load rating of existing bridges (vehicular and rail).
  • Individual will perform design calculations, develop plan details, quantity take offs, specification writing and other technical report writing.
  • Ability to establish partnerships with internal and external project management, client representatives, government agencies, and other organizations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage staff to effectively deliver projects on deadlines, including managing multiple staff working on multiple projects including management of subconsultants.
  • Understanding of project budgets, administration, contracts, and project management responsibilities.
  • Ability to market the skills of the structural and transportation engineering practice.
  • Ability to work in a corporate environment, communicating with a wide range of professional skill sets.
  • Specification Writing.
  • Cost Estimating.
  • Quality Control & Assurance reviews of all project deliverables.
  • Mentoring.
