Endoscopy Technician

The Endoscopy Technician provides critical support to physicians during endoscopic procedures. To ensure a safe working environment, the technician must maintain a clean and organized workspace, care for instruments and equipment, and anticipate the needs of the Endoscopist during the procedure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists physicians with all types of endoscopic procedures by following universal precautions, using orientation and competency tools, and obtaining and recording patient data during the procedure.
- Verifies patient information, prepares the room, and ensures the appropriate endoscope and supplies are available.
- Maintains a therapeutic environment by providing patient care in accordance with hospital patient comfort measures and departmental policies.
- Cleans and tests equipment to ensure it is working correctly and reports any malfunctions to the nurse in charge.
- Cleans the procedure room, including endoscopes and accessories, and enters patient data into the Image Manager Computer System.
- Collects and labels specimens obtained from patients during endoscopic procedures and assures patient comfort directed by the nurse.
- Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment in procedure rooms on a daily basis and participates in staff meetings and in-services to update knowledge and skills.
- Performs secretarial duties, transporter and messenger duties when assigned, and related duties as required.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED equivalency required.
- Minimum of one year experience in healthcare required, with nursing attendant experience preferred.
- Computer literate with knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, and Olympus Image Manager required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, self-starter, team player, and works well under pressure with strong interpersonal and manual dexterity skills required.
- Bilingual preferred.
