Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Painter and Decorator to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the interior and exterior of our buildings are well-maintained and visually appealing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Painting and Finishing: Apply a variety of paints, finishes, and specialized products to walls, furniture, and other surfaces to achieve a high-quality finish.
  • Wall Repair and Maintenance: Repair and replace damaged or worn-out walls, including patching, sanding, and priming.
  • Surface Preparation: Clean and prepare surfaces for painting, including removing old finishes and applying new ones.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate various equipment, such as ladders, scaffolding, and power tools, to perform tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Job Costing and Scheduling: Calculate job costs, order materials and supplies, and schedule tasks to ensure timely completion.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and minimal disruption to patients, employees, and visitors.
Requirements
  • Education: Advanced training beyond high school, including completion of an accredited or approved program in Painting and Decorating.
  • Experience: Typically requires 5 years of experience in commercial/residential painting and/or experience working in a paint shop.
  • Licensure and Certification: Valid driver's license and completion of a Painter and Decorator state indentured apprenticeship program.
  • Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in using paint brushes, rollers, and spray guns; basic computer and mathematical skills; good communication and interpersonal skills; and demonstrated ability to work independently and problem-solve.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to twist, kneel, bend, stoop, crawl, climb, and reach above shoulders as needed to perform tasks; must also have the ability to withstand constant standing/walking.
  • Environmental Factors: Exposed to mechanical, chemical, and explosive hazards; exposed to sharp instruments; and exposed to fumes from mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, paint, and varnish remover.
