The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Med-Surg unit plays a vital role in delivering patient-centered care, working collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure seamless coordination and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and psychological needs, providing accurate and timely information to inform care decisions.
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient assessment and physician orders, ensuring alignment with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Patient Care
    • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed, maintaining strict adherence to medical protocols and prioritizing patient safety.
    • Monitor patient vital signs, lab results, and clinical progress, making necessary adjustments to care plans to optimize patient outcomes.
    • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including mobility, hygiene, and nutrition, promoting independence and dignity.
    • Provide pre- and post-operative care, educating patients on procedures, medication, and recovery plans to facilitate smooth transitions and minimize complications.
  • Collaboration
    • Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care and ensure positive patient outcomes, fostering open communication and effective teamwork.
    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding the plan of care and any changes in condition, promoting transparency and empathy.
  • Patient Education
    • Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment options, and discharge plans, empowering them to take an active role in their healthcare.
    • Provide instructions on medication management, lifestyle changes, and follow-up care, ensuring patients are well-prepared for discharge and continued support.
  • Documentation
    • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, progress, and outcomes in the medical record, maintaining clear and concise records that meet regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, standards, and regulatory requirements, upholding the highest standards of quality and accountability.
  • Safety & Infection Control
    • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to prevent hospital-acquired infections and ensure a safe environment, minimizing risks and promoting a culture of safety.
    • Respond quickly to changes in patient conditions, such as emergencies or complications, exercising sound judgment and decisive action to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Supervision & Mentorship
    • Assist in mentoring new staff or nursing students and provide guidance as needed, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
    • Serve as a resource for junior nursing staff in clinical decision-making, offering expertise and support to ensure seamless delivery of care.
