Role Overview:

The Senior Backend Engineer will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and upkeep of cloud-based services that improve driver interactions across various scenarios, including navigation, user preferences, and secure authentication. You will work in close partnership with product managers, mobile developers, and embedded systems engineers to understand the online service requirements under your purview. Furthermore, you may collaborate with external teams to investigate existing corporate systems, conduct experiments, and influence architectural and integration strategies. We seek a proactive individual who takes pride in product quality, is enthusiastic about exploring new technologies, and is prepared to extend their efforts beyond conventional responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect scalable, testable, and observable backend services for a global mobile application.
  • Develop backend service solutions, including the selection and configuration of cloud infrastructure, monitoring and alerting systems, and integration with various third-party APIs.
  • Work closely with mobile application developers, third-party API developers, and software architects to devise solutions that deliver an outstanding experience for Honda drivers.
  • Diagnose production issues and implement effective hotfixes.
  • Contribute to the infrastructure of the CI/CD pipeline.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with statically-typed programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Scala, C/C++, or Rust, focusing on production-ready code.
  • Proficient in GraphQL APIs, with a strong emphasis on query optimization and management of multiple resolvers.
  • Proven track record in delivering efficient API integrations and interfaces.
  • Experience with leading cloud platforms, including GCP, AWS, or Azure.
  • Skilled in designing, building, and maintaining cloud-native backend services.
  • A flexible mindset and entrepreneurial spirit, with a willingness to explore new technologies and tackle backend development challenges.
  • Willingness to travel 5-10% within the US and Asia, based on project needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Fluency in the Japanese language.
