Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatrist to join our team at the Alaska VA Healthcare System. As a Psychiatrist, you will provide mental health services to Veterans, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct mental health services to Veterans, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions.
  • Conduct history and mental status exams on assigned patients.
  • Develop, document, and update treatment plans consistent with VHA guidelines and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Order laboratory and radiological assessments as necessary.
  • Initiate and follow up on consults/referrals as indicated.
  • Provide psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy as indicated.
  • Prescribe medications and supplies in accordance with VHA guidelines, state regulations, and scope of practice.
  • Maintain effective and up-to-date documentation of patient encounters.
  • Complete pertinent clinical reminders during scheduled appointments.
  • Provide health care education to patients and their families.
  • Act as a consultant for other medical, nursing, and clinical staff.
  • Place return to clinic orders for patients follow up care.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Complete and close patient encounters within VHA guidelines.
  • Prepare for scheduled patient encounters.
  • Participate in mental health and psychiatric services, including attending staff trainings, meetings, and calls.
  • Participate in development and implementation of service level projects.
  • Participate in Professional Practice Evaluation activities.
  • Ensure that any quality measure fallouts from Professional Practice Evaluations are reviewed and addressed appropriately.
  • Coordinate across the continuum of care.
  • Support the Chief of Psychiatry and the ACOS of Mental Health in developing quality improvement practices.
  • Participate in professional and administrative activities as assigned.
  • Remain up to date on Service Standard Operating Procedures, Medical Center Policies, VHA Directives, VHA Handbooks, Clinical Practice Guidelines, and accreditation standards.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Board Certification/Eligibility.
  • Must have full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in ANY U.S. State.
