Position Summary

The Aviation Maintenance Instructor with A&P Certification will oversee the daily operations within the aviation technology department. This role involves planning and delivering educational content as assigned for the aviation technology curriculum.

Salary: Commensurate with educational background and experience according to the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule D1. Salary range: $45,676 - $92,513 for nine-month employment; Summer employment may be available based on enrollment: $14,102 - $28,612.
Benefits: Full-time employees are entitled to the College's benefits package, which includes health insurance, retirement plans, and various types of leave (annual, sick, and personal).

Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively teach the required course material.
  • Plan, organize, and instruct courses during the day, evening, or weekends.
  • Assist in the implementation of College policies and objectives in alignment with institutional philosophy.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and inspire enthusiasm among students.
  • Recommend instructional materials, including textbooks and laboratory equipment, to Department Chairs.
  • Keep students informed about their academic progress through timely grading of assignments and assessments.
  • Prepare annual program budgets and collaborate with Department Chairs on division budgets for approval.
  • Conduct evaluations of classes and participate in other College assessments as per policy.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students.
  • Maintain office hours for student consultations.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Ensure that classes are conducted as scheduled.
  • Plan each lesson to maximize educational effectiveness.
  • Organize courses into structured learning experiences.
  • Utilize student characteristics to enhance teaching and learning environments.
  • Maximize learning opportunities for all students.
  • Strive for excellence as outlined in the faculty evaluation criteria.
  • Refer students requiring assistance to the Student Affairs department.
  • File course syllabi and outlines with the Department Chair and appropriate Director.
  • Submit all required reports and maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and other relevant gatherings.
  • Provide suggestions for curriculum improvement to the Department Chair and Dean.
  • Familiarize oneself with and adhere to all College policies and procedures.
  • Engage in co-curricular activities at the College.
  • Represent the College positively both on and off campus.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Chair or relevant administrative personnel.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or equivalent (minimum 60 semester hours in a planned program) from an accredited institution.
  • Six (6) years of full-time experience in aviation maintenance and repair.
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) A&P mechanic certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
