Position Overview

The Machinist Specialist will be responsible for fabricating various components according to technical specifications utilizing a range of conventional and/or CNC machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine the appropriate machinery for each task based on operational requirements, precision, and complexity.
  • Select suitable tooling and work-holding devices tailored to specific jobs.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of speeds and feeds relevant to diverse materials.
  • Create CNC programs through CAD/CAM software, conversational programming, or on-machine G-code programming.
  • Identify and procure the correct materials based on job specifications.
  • Apply knowledge of GD&T and utilize inspection techniques with toolroom gauges.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a tool-making apprenticeship or a minimum of 5 years of relevant machining experience is essential.
  • Journeyman status is highly preferred.
  • At least four years of experience in precision machining, including turning, milling, ID (Internal Diameter), OD (Outer Diameter), and surface grinding.
  • Experience with Wire EDM and conventional EDM is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided machining (CAD/CAM) is a plus.
  • Experience in writing CNC programs is mandatory.
  • Expertise in measurement tools such as ID, OD, and depth micrometers, height gauges, and manual CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine) is required.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, including geometric dimensions.
  • Working knowledge of materials, including tool steels, aluminum, and stainless steels.
  • Experience in material heat treating, including tempering, is beneficial.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to convey clear technical instructions to supervision and colleagues.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) is expected.
  • Ability to thrive in a noisy and fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated self-initiative and mechanical proficiency.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities and a strong sense of teamwork.
  • Willingness to work alternate shifts and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts for training, coaching, projects, and travel as necessary.
