Job Overview:

The Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS), affiliated with the University of Kentucky, is seeking to fill two positions for Environmental Geoscientists. These roles are crucial in the initiative to mitigate methane emissions and locate abandoned wells that may present environmental risks. Key responsibilities include conducting fieldwork to gather methane concentration data from abandoned oil and gas wells, analyzing collected gas samples, and entering data into databases.

Candidates should be adept at teamwork and possess the ability to work safely in field environments, which may involve long-distance travel and overnight stays. As representatives of KGS and the University of Kentucky, individuals should be prepared to collaborate with external contractors and staff from the Kentucky Division of Oil and Gas. Proficiency in Excel for data management is required, while familiarity with ArcGIS and Google Earth is preferred. Attention to detail, safety awareness, courtesy, and effective communication skills are essential. This exempt position is funded through grants and includes comprehensive benefits and travel expense reimbursement.

Skills and Competencies:

Proficient in MS Office Suite, experience with MS Access.

Supervisory Role:

This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

A degree in Geology is preferred.
Possession of a valid driver's license is preferred.
