Job Summary:

This Design Thermal Systems Engineer position requires a mechanical engineer with experience in thermal-fluid systems, equipment sizing and specification, procurement package development, supplier data incorporation, and coordination with other disciplines for an integrated engineering approach. The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, minimum 3.0 GPA, and 1-3 years of professional experience.

The position will adhere to a hybrid work model, requiring at least three days of on-site work per week at the Rock Hill, SC office. Flexibility exists for choosing days in the office, as well as an opportunity for a 9/80 work week.

About the Role:

In this role, you will perform various technical tasks in support of engineering, procurement, and construction activities for new power plant technologies, such as Westinghouse's flagship AP1000 design, AP300TM small modular reactor (SMR) design, eVinciTM microreactor design, and Pumped Thermal Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) design.

You will also be responsible for performing technical tasks in support of engineering, procurement, and implementation activities to maintain long-term operations of existing power plants, including legacy Westinghouse designs. This includes collecting and compiling data for design development, technical summaries, and project reports, assisting in proposal efforts, documenting technical data for management review, assisting with preparation of labor/material estimates and design packages for clients, and other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design thermal-fluid systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Evaluate equipment specifications, considering factors such as capacity, efficiency, and durability.
  • Develop procurement packages, incorporating supplier data and coordinating with other disciplines for an integrated engineering approach.
  • Analyze technical data, interpreting results and making informed recommendations.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation, including design drawings and project reports.

About You:

To succeed in this role, you will require excellent communication skills for collaboration in a distributed team environment. You should be able to travel to project sites for short-term assignments lasting from a couple of days to six months or more, gaining valuable experience and developing your skills rapidly.

This position also expects you to obtain and maintain unescorted access to power plants. Proficiency in Microsoft products, particularly Word and Excel, is essential. Experience with software modeling tools, such as thermal/hydraulic products, FEA products, transient analysis products, 3D modeling products, and complex mathematical modeling products, is desirable.

Estimated Salary Range:

$90,000 - $120,000 per year, based on experience and location.
