Position Summary:

The Tax Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in facilitating tax preparation tasks, which include the development of tax schedules, conducting tax research, managing sales and use tax returns, and preparing necessary annual reports for various related entities across the US and Canada. This position serves as the primary liaison for outsourced tax advisors regarding corporate, partnership, shareholder, and trust income tax estimates and returns, while also overseeing the fixed asset system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax filings in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Manage fixed assets, including budgeting, tracking, and maintaining tax depreciation schedules.
  • Conduct monthly Section 263a calculations and recommend updates as necessary.
  • Compile supporting documentation for new state registrations, voluntary disclosures, and audits as required.
  • Address inquiries from taxing authorities and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly HST/GST returns for the Canadian entity.
  • Provide supporting schedules and information for the timely completion of various outsourced tax returns, including federal and state filings.
  • Maintain a schedule of and complete required annual reporting across multiple states.
  • Review customer exemption certificates for validity.
  • Ensure accuracy in the application of use tax.
  • Maintain tax tables within the ERP system.
  • Conduct tax research, monitor changes in tax legislation, and offer recommendations for tax planning and compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement through automation or internal enhancements.
Qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in tax compliance and filing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Proficient in the O365 suite, particularly Excel, Word, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with CSI/Syteline ERP and Avalara Tax is highly desirable.
Work Environment:

  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to navigate a manufacturing facility with ease.
