Within the Vehicle Motion Division, we specialize in designing and developing cutting-edge safety and motion solutions for a range of vehicles, including passenger cars, light trucks, and medium heavy trucks. Our division is committed to providing mobility solutions through steering, braking, occupant safety, and vehicle dynamic sensors. We are also leaders in the software and services that will define the future of Software Defined Vehicles.
The Steering Lab Test Team Lead is tasked with overseeing a team of 10-12 technicians, ensuring efficient daily operations within the test lab. The primary focus is on the safety, qualification, and positive motivation of all lab personnel, necessitating clear communication and organized work distribution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Model safety and order while ensuring efficient processing of testing work orders.
- Manage daily operations of lab staff, including Kanban-style assignment of work orders to personnel and equipment.
- Facilitate regular alignment with test engineers to forecast weekly lab tasks and schedule test benches.
- Coordinate priorities with test engineers and leadership in case of resource conflicts.
- Monitor technician proficiency in test procedures.
- Ensure comprehensive training within the team and promote cross-training opportunities.
- Establish metrics to measure test equipment utilization and drive continuous improvement.
- Identify opportunities for developing new technical capabilities or procedures.
- Conduct annual goal-setting and regular performance evaluations for team members.
- Mentor team members and support their career development.
- Oversee team working hours, including occasional overtime scheduling.
- Act as a key liaison for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Facilities Management (FCM) representatives.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental policies.
- Proactively identify and mitigate hazards in the work environment.
- Review and advise on technical issues related to equipment and test setups, requiring the ability to analyze complex technical topics.
- Develop a storage strategy for high volumes of test samples to maintain organization and effective material flow.
- Assign and oversee regular organization and cleanliness tasks, collaborating with test engineers and reviewing onsite test sample inventory.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a technical field with 5+ years of experience in an engineering lab or automotive production environment, or 10+ years in automotive production or engineering lab with leadership responsibilities.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening abilities.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to manage multiple responsibilities.
- Familiarity with design elements and technical features of mechatronic systems.
- Aptitude for troubleshooting and resolving technical and procedural challenges.
- Knowledge and technical experience with the function and construction of rack and pinion electric power steering systems.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and personnel at all levels.
- Familiarity with Vector tools and CAN communication.
