Job Summary

MidCoast Health System is seeking a skilled Laboratory Phlebotomist to join our team. As a Laboratory Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing, company drug screen collections, and other related duties. You will work closely with our laboratory team to ensure accurate and efficient specimen collection and processing.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens from patients using aseptic techniques and following established protocols.
• Perform clerical duties associated with specimen collection and referral, including data entry and record-keeping.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to hospital and departmental safety standards.
• Demonstrate patient-centered behaviors and provide excellent customer service to patients and colleagues.
• Collaborate with the laboratory team to ensure smooth specimen collection and processing operations.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy Course helpful, experience preferred, but will train in some instances.
• Registered phlebotomist will be compensated by salary adjustment.
• Must be able to work from 4 to 16 hour shifts with a normal shift being 7-8 hours.
• Will stand/walk 6 or more hours of normal shift; bend, squat, stoop, reach above shoulder level; push and pull equipment or supplies weighing up to 100 lbs and lift 40 pounds.
• Must be able to read and write the English language.
• Requires good manual dexterity.

Working Conditions

Exposed to loud noise, hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, and patients with a variety of illnesses.

Work Schedule

Normal work schedule could be Monday through Friday with rotating weekends or seven on/seven off shift. Routine schedule will be specified at hire but may include any shift if the need arises to provide adequate coverage.
