The Assistant Nurse Manager is a key member of the nursing team, responsible for supporting the Nurse Manager in the execution of the nursing strategic plan and priorities. This role requires a skilled communicator, collaborator, and authentic leader who can effectively coordinate staffing, support throughput, quality and safety outcomes, staff competency, hiring, clinical and staff corrective actions, unit efficiency, quality care, and other departmental activities to support the mission, vision, and values of Hackensack Meridian Health.
Leadership/Human Resource ManagementThe Assistant Nurse Manager will collaborate with the Nurse Manager to:
- Participate in recruitment and retention strategies.
- Assist with unit huddles and leader rounding with employees.
- Participate in unit goal creation, which are reflective of the hospital goals as well as the mission and vision of Hackensack Meridian Health.
- Participate or lead evidenced-based practice projects or research.
- Participate or lead unit-based or hospital-based shared governance committees or councils.
- Resolve conflicts and facilitate constructive resolutions and positive outcomes if possible.
- Complete employee corrective action plans/counseling as necessary.
- Adhere to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
- Prepare and conduct periodic performance evaluations to assigned staff members.
- Contribute to and/or monitor the unit orientation process of all roles as necessary.
- Participate with and model the importance of employee recognition.
- Model cultural competence, social justice, and fairness, and capitalize on generational diversity to foster highly effective work groups.
- Where applicable, escalate nursing labor/management issues.
The Assistant Nurse Manager will collaborate with the Nurse Manager for efficient fiscal management of departmental activities to ensure proper utilization of hospital resources:
- Participate in Payroll, Staff Scheduling, and daily staffing needs.
- Assist in the management of the department budget. Monitor business intelligence for the unit.
- Maximize care efficiency and throughput.
- Understand the relationship between value-based purchasing and quality outcomes with revenue and reimbursement.
- Monitor unit staffing productivity and flex staff accordingly.
The Assistant Nurse Manager will collaborate with the Nurse Manager to:
- Optimize the patient and family experience of care.
- Lead Multidisciplinary Rounds.
- Ensure unit-based performance improvement monitoring is completed, trended, and reported internal and external to the unit.
- Lead or participate with quality improvement projects.
- Lead or conduct root cause analysis investigations.
- Assure unit regulatory compliance.
