Data Center Technician II Job Description

Job Summary:

The Data Center Technician II will be responsible for providing day-to-day data center support activities, including server and network hardware installation, copper and fiber-optic cabling, and troubleshooting. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of IT infrastructure and be able to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain server and network hardware
  • Perform copper and fiber-optic cabling
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues
  • Monitor and respond to hardware and software issues using an industry-standard ticketing system
  • Provide clear, timely, and appropriate customer communications
  • Participate in the change management process, including monitoring production and preventative maintenance

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in rack and stack, OS provisioning, and boot strapping network devices
  • Basic Linux and scripting experience, including checking out repositories from GitHub and setting up Linux environments
  • Experience with O365 software and ITSM/DCIM workflow management systems
  • Working knowledge of Jira or other ticketing systems, server hardware, and basic networking components and protocols
  • Knowledgeable in data center practices, including fault tolerance, redundant cabling, and calculating power usage
  • Able to manage server, switch, router, storage, and other hardware lifecycle processes
  • Able to understand how to correctly and effectively run cabling, including power, Cat6, SM/MM fiber optic, and IB
  • Strong cable management skills and experience running fiber and copper in a data center
  • Basic understanding of electrical, HVAC, and cable infrastructure
  • Certifications (preferred): CCNA, CCENT, CompTIA Server+, ITIL

Other Abilities/Skills:

  • Able to safely lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Able to be on feet majority of work day
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English
  • Must provide own transportation to work location(s)
  • Must be able to respond to any on-call request within 1 hour
  • Able to update asset management data as required, using scanners
  • Strong proclivity towards multitasking and adaptivity
  • Must be punctual, reliable, and have good organization skills
  • Must have good interpersonal skills for working in a team environment
  • Must have good time management skills, be goal-oriented to deliver good quantity/quality of work
  • Able to operate material handling equipment - pallet jacks and forklifts, if certified
  • Able to learn new systems, methodologies, and procedures, including different types software/hardware
