Job Summary:

As a key member of our healthcare team, the Mammography Technologist plays a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our Radiology department. Under the supervision of a physician, this position is responsible for performing mammography examinations, maintaining quality control, and ensuring accurate and efficient patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Care: Complete patient history and breast assessment forms, transmit forms into the Radiology PACS system, and ensure accurate and timely documentation.
  • Mammography Exams: Perform mammography studies and procedures, position patients, apply compression, and provide immobilization means as required. Select technical factors and protocols to achieve optimal imaging for each patient.
  • Quality Control: Maintain daily records of exams performed, perform system quality control as required, and ensure accuracy of information and data entry.
  • Preparation and Sterilization: Prepare sterile fields, prepare floor stock medications, and ensure sterility of surgical packs, trays, and disposables.
  • Assistance and Support: Assist radiologists during exams and procedures, capture specific mammography images, and assist with biopsy specimen collection.
  • Image Processing: Post-process and perform quality control of mammography images, prepare images for radiologist interpretation, and transmit images to the Diagnostic Imaging PACS system.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain working knowledge of all department equipment and devices, report equipment malfunctions, and ensure proper functioning of equipment.
  • Patient Safety and Education: Provide fear/stress-reducing service-oriented communication with patients, explain procedures, answer questions, and provide encouragement. Emphasize a personalized, individualized, compassionate patient care atmosphere at all times.
  • Radiation Safety: Apply appropriate measures (ALARA Principles) for minimizing radiation exposure, capture and record radiation dose delivered during procedures, and provide instructions on safety measures to patients, family members, and hospital staff.
  • Team Collaboration: Function as part of the resuscitation team during Code Blue and/or Rapid Response Team situations, and maintain a collaborative and supportive team environment.
Requirements:
  • Education: Associate's degree in radiologic technology or two years of experience in a directly related area.
  • Experience: Minimum one year general radiology experience as a registered technologist, including experience or successful completion of training program in area of specialty, if applicable. Minimum one year mammography experience.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Basic Life Support OR CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, Radiographer License (Hawaii) required at hire, and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Mammography Technologist.
