Position Overview

As a Senior HVAC Controls Specialist, you will operate with minimal oversight to perform a variety of tasks related to control systems.


Your responsibilities will include conducting preventive maintenance, repairs, installations, and commissioning of control systems, alongside thorough troubleshooting and completion of necessary project and service documentation.

You will be pivotal in ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction through direct interactions on-site.

Utilizing your extensive technical expertise, you will also mentor Control Technicians, Service Technicians, and Mechanical Technicians in Building Automation activities.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide recommendations for repairs and updates to control systems and assist in presenting these to customers.


- Diagnose and resolve complex malfunctions in control systems, requiring a deep understanding of various electronic and digital control systems.

- Engage with customers through data collection and site evaluations, offering proposals for retrofits, upgrades, and enhancements to existing systems.

- Manage your workload effectively to ensure timely and professional execution, maintaining customer satisfaction. Report any issues or changes to management promptly.


- Collaborate with the Branch Manager, Service Manager, Service Project Manager, or subcontractors to coordinate project activities in a professional manner.

- Provide sketches of field modifications for engineering corrections and assist with job layouts and bid proposals.

- Maintain communication with customers upon arrival and before departure from job sites, ensuring high levels of satisfaction. Regularly meet with customers to understand operational challenges.


- Keep management and customers informed about the nature of services provided and any outstanding issues, while recommending system enhancements and upgrades.

- Promote additional service opportunities.

- Train customers on control system operations and deliver necessary manuals and documentation for their training needs.


- Assist in the design and configuration of Building Control systems as per contract specifications, creating flow diagrams, operational sequences, bill of materials, network layouts, and electrical schematics as required.


- Oversee the ordering and tracking of materials for assigned projects, coordinating factory processes to align with project schedules.

- Aid in the loading and commissioning of system and network-level controllers, validating complete system functionality and troubleshooting issues with subcontractors and other trades.


- Engage in extensive self-study to enhance and maintain technical proficiency in the company's product lines, completing required certifications.

- Participate in company-sponsored and self-initiated training to uphold the highest level of knowledge and capability.

- Promote safety awareness while working on-site with subcontractors, adhering to all safety standards with a strong focus on employee and subcontractor safety.


- Attend mandatory safety training and provide leadership in safety practices to all Controls Technicians in the branch.

Qualifications

Required:
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in Comfort Building Automation.
- Proven experience in installing and servicing control systems on HVAC equipment.
- Strong communication skills to effectively represent the company on customer sites.
- Ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficient writing skills and understanding of various software applications.
- Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and related subsystems.

Preferred:


- Experience with HVAC DDC (Direct Digital Controls) systems programming, troubleshooting, installation, commissioning, and preventative maintenance as it pertains to Building Automation, electrical, and low voltage control components.
