Job Summary

The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform various clinical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
  • Receive and obtain specimens for laboratory analysis, preparing and applying techniques used in fields of blood bank, bacteriology, parasitology, hematology, serology, urinalysis, chemistry, and morphological examinations.
  • Maintain and record lab results and quality control in all areas, including instrument maintenance, calibration, and quality assurance tasks.
  • Assist with phlebotomy procedures, biopsy procedures, and inventory control and stocking.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and continuing education to stay up-to-date with the latest laboratory techniques and technologies.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of an accredited MLT program.
  • Associate's degree.
  • National certification (ASCP or equivalent), or eligible.* (*Certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire)
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a MLT preferred.
