This role is intended for an attorney with 2-7 years of experience to become part of the Medical Malpractice team in our Albany, NY office, which defends physicians and other healthcare professionals, hospitals, and healthcare facilities in a wide range of medical malpractice litigation. We seek a bright, highly motivated, and proactive attorney with exceptional writing abilities – someone who is willing and capable of working independently and is comfortable engaging with clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior litigators to formulate defense strategies for medical malpractice cases;
  • Draft and review legal documents including pleadings, discovery requests, memos, briefs, and other correspondence;
  • Analyze medical records;
  • Represent clients in court proceedings;
  • Participate in depositions, conferences, hearings, and all aspects of medical malpractice litigation;
  • Engage with medical experts;
  • Conduct legal and medical research and analysis;
  • Prepare motions;
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues;
  • Maintain client interactions.

Education and Experience:

  • Licensed to practice in New York;
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in medical malpractice or healthcare litigation.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong legal research, writing, and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to engage with clients and earn their trust;
  • Capability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to quickly identify and resolve issues.

Compensation and Benefits:

Kaufman Borgeest & Ryan LLP is proud to offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package, including extensive health and wellness benefits, opportunities for personal and professional growth, and a collegial and supportive workplace culture. The anticipated salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000, based on experience level, reflecting our good faith estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. Additionally, this role is eligible for a discretionary performance-based bonus. The actual salary offered will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and internal equity considerations.
