Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary for this position varies depending on location, but it ranges from $43,415 to $67,173 per year, with a potential incentive of up to $2,000 for eligible applicants. About the Job

This is a seasonal position typically lasting between 4-6 months or 6-8 months, with the possibility of extension. As a Tax Examining Clerk/Technician, you will be responsible for researching tax issues, verifying taxpayer accounts, securing payment of delinquent taxes, and providing technical assistance. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

This position has career progression opportunities, allowing you to grow professionally and advance your career within the IRS. You may be hired at a lower grade level and non-competitively promoted to a higher grade level based on your performance and experience.

Qualifications and Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must have progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work experience that indicates your ability to acquire the necessary competencies. Alternatively, you may substitute education for specialized experience. The required qualifications include:

  • General experience: Two (2) years of education above the high school level in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial, or technical school;
  • Specialized experience: One (1) year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service; or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.
