Job Title: Materials Manager

The Materials Manager will be responsible for leading the materials department at our facility, ensuring compliance with regulations and providing critical information to other leaders as needed. This role reports directly to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute material management strategies to achieve departmental goals related to inventory turns, levels, customer service, and operating profit.
  • Collaborate with production to collect requirements, design specifications, and budget for raw materials.
  • Research and negotiate with vendors to secure the best prices for quality products on time.
  • Supervise the shipping of materials to ensure defect-free delivery.
  • Manage inventory levels and generate monthly reports for higher officials.
  • Identify and address excessive raw material consumption by collecting data from production.
  • Coordinate emergency material requirements and arrange supplies accordingly.
  • Support the implementation of policies, procedures, systems, and programs to meet departmental objectives and drive continuous improvement in material management and supply planning.
  • Lead a team of buyers, planners, master schedulers, forecasters, shipping and receiving personnel, and clerks.
  • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure effective material planning functions.
  • Participate in daily management meetings and collaborate with cross-functional teams on planning and purchasing initiatives.
  • Work closely with manufacturing plant management to support improvement activity plans and visions.
  • Develop root cause/countermeasures for customer service levels and inventory reduction.
  • Apply knowledge of planning/pull systems, MRP concepts, lean manufacturing, and production flow principles.
  • Develop short and long-term inventory projections and evaluate production plans, plant capacities, and supplier capacities.
  • Communicate and coordinate cross-functional efforts and improvement activities with other department leaders.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations or Business, with a specialization in Logistics, Material Management, or Supply Chain Management.
  • APICS certification preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Logistics, Material Management, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in materials planning, production control, purchasing, forecasting, and/or master scheduling in a low-volume/high-mix manufacturing environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills, knowledge of steel purchasing and processing, and expertise in metal-cutting operations, grinding, and tooling manufacturing.
  • Skilled in researching markets, designing quotations, and inventory control methods.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with experience in ERP/MRP systems and lean concepts/tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with various levels and types of people.
  • Good written, oral, and presentation skills, with project management and problem-solving abilities.
