Job Title: Coastal Engineer

Join the Town of Palm Beach, FL, as a Coastal Engineer and contribute to the development and implementation of coastal-related projects.

Job Summary

The Coastal Engineer will be responsible for implementing, managing, and directing a wide variety of coastal-related projects, including shore protection, erosion control, and beach nourishment. This is a professional position, working independently under the general direction of the Director of Public Works.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides staff support to the Town's Shore Protection Board.
  • Develops, implements, and administers coastal projects.
  • Prepares annual budget requests for operating expenses and capital projects.
  • Coordinates budgeting and payments for coastal engineering design, construction, and other related costs to projects.
  • Designs and manages estuarine, restoration/enhancement projects, including environmental permitting and development of construction plans and specifications.
  • Prepares grant applications, permit applications, agenda items, and project agreements.
  • Acts as liaison between Town officials, consultants, contractors, the general public, and permitting agencies.
  • Supervises consultant selection and serves as project manager to consultant activities.
  • Serves as contract administrator and maintains up-to-date project schedules, reports, and invoices.
  • Performs site inspections and reviews data from field inspectors to guarantee project success.
  • Analyzes data, prepares cost estimates, and performs economic studies.
  • Identifies potential environmental and engineering constraints to coastal projects.
  • Stays informed of new technology and legislation by attending seminars, meetings, conferences, and training sessions as appropriate.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in coastal engineering, coastal geology, environmental sciences, biology, or a closely related field is required.
  • At least seven years of experience in the field of coastal management/coastal projects, including experience in project management and contract administration is required.
  • A valid Florida driver's license is required.
  • Florida Professional Engineer's Registration is preferred.
