About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Maintenance Worker to join our team at the City of Des Moines Washington. As a Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair of streets, surface water drainage facilities, and parks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of streets, storm drainage systems, and parks.
  • Operate a variety of equipment, including trucks, tractors, and hand tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including masonry, pavement, and utility repair.
  • Assist in storm events and pollution event response emergencies.
  • Maintain City parks and recreation grounds, including mowing, edging, and applying pesticides and fertilizer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, equalize peak work periods, or balance the workload.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Related experience in maintenance and repair or construction trade preferred.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

The Maintenance Worker will work primarily outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions, and will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed. The position may also require working in confined spaces, around heavy equipment, and operating potentially dangerous tools.
