Research Scientist in Computational Genomics
2 weeks ago
At Clemson University, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Scientist to join our team in the Department of Genetics and Biochemistry. As a postdoctoral fellow, you will be part of the Witt Lab, which focuses on understanding the evolutionary history of human and domesticated populations using computational genomics techniques.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects involving analysis of low-coverage genomic data from ancient domesticated populations or published human genome data. You will analyze genomic data, prepare manuscripts for publication, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and assist with grant preparation. Additionally, you will have the chance to develop your own research projects and apply for grants.
We offer a competitive salary following NIH pay scales, university benefits, and funding for research and conference travel. The position is funded for two years, with annual renewal, and may be extended pending funding availability. The expected start date is flexible but can be as soon as March 2025.
About the Witt Lab: Our lab uses computational genetics and population genomics techniques to understand how past demographic events like selection and gene flow impact the genomes of modern populations. We have ongoing collaborations with multiple archaeologists, anthropologists, and computational geneticists, and have a broad interest in human evolution and population genetics.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in genetics, evolutionary biology, or a related field with knowledge of population genetics. They should also have experience analyzing genomic data, preferably using computational clusters for data analysis. Strong candidates will be able to work independently, have effective oral and written communication skills, and be able to collaborate with and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students.
Application Instructions: For full consideration, applications should be submitted via Interfolio at apply.interfolio.com/132260. Please submit the following items:
- A cover letter describing relevant research experience and motivation, as well as interest for the current position
- A curriculum vitae
- A one-page research statement
- Contact information (telephone number and email address) for three professional references
We look forward to receiving your application
