Job Summary

Connecticut Children's seeks a highly skilled and compassionate Staff Nurse to join our Pediatric Critical Care team. As a Staff Nurse, you will provide direct professional nursing care to critically ill infants and children, utilizing the nursing process to ensure safe and effective care.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice: Demonstrate clinical expertise in pediatric critical care, utilizing the nursing process to provide safe and appropriate patient care.
  • Emergency Department: Function as a primary care nurse in the Emergency Department, providing assistance in a float nurse/assistant role to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and inpatient medical-surgical areas as needed.
  • Critical Care Transport: Maintain critical care transport skills, including IV placement, IO placement, advanced airway management, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Documentation and Communication: Complete all required documentation in a timely manner, utilizing effective communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals, patients, and families.
  • Patient/Family Partnership and Education: Partner with child and family in evaluating outcomes, providing education on all aspects of care, and supporting the organization's efforts to patient/family education.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of ASN/ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred. If ASN/ADN, must acquire BSN within 3 years of hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a critical care nursing environment (ED, PICU, NICU, ICU, CICU) preferred.
  • Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse Licensure required and maintained thereafter.
  • American Heart Association, or American Red Cross, Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS certification required upon hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 6 months or hire.
  • ENPC - Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • TNCC - Trauma Nurse Core Course required within 12 months of hire.
