Deputy Defender

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Deputy Defender to join our team at the Oregon Public Defense Commission. As a Deputy Defender, you will provide court-appointed legal representation and advocacy to indigent clients charged with criminal offenses in the circuit courts of Oregon.

• Represent clients from arraignment through filing of post-trial motions, including probation violations, misdemeanors, and felonies.
• Conduct thorough investigations, gather evidence, and develop effective defense strategies.
• Communicate effectively with clients, ensuring they understand the status of their cases and their rights.
• Prepare and argue pretrial motions, affidavits, and legal memoranda.
• Participate in dispositional and sentencing advocacy, including mitigation investigations.
• Represent clients in jury and bench trials, ensuring they receive a fair and just outcome.

• Graduation from an accredited law school and membership in the Oregon State Bar or eligibility for membership through reciprocity or a program approved by the Oregon State Bar.
• Meets or exceeds OPDC standards for court-appointed counsel in misdemeanor, lesser felony, and major felony cases.
• Valid Oregon Driver's license.
