Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct speech therapy sessions for patients as assigned.
  • Screen, evaluate, and develop individualized treatment plans for patients.
  • Evaluate patient response to treatment and document treatment plans as necessary.
  • Provide information and updates to staff, physicians, and family members regarding patient progress.
  • Document treatment and outcomes daily according to accepted regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines.
  • Provide patient and family education on tasks and resources to assist with continued functional independence.
  • Communicate results of speech-language evaluations and recommendations to the treatment team and patient/family.
  • Participate in patient care conferences as necessary to provide updated patient progress and goal revisions if needed.
  • Serve as a resource in areas of speech-language pathology.
  • Conduct in-services as requested.
  • Coordinate treatment activity with other disciplines and team members as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development of improved efficiency and productivity of unity clinical functions.
  • Offer positive suggestions/solutions to improve service delivery and unit operations.
  • Assist with the development of student programs as requested.
  • Contribute to the delivery of cost-effective care.
  • Utilize resources appropriately and use/maintain equipment to prolong working life.
  • Participate in discharge planning.
  • Document and charge daily therapeutic units timely and accurately.
  • Communicate with the Director of Clinical Services regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems, and successes.
  • Supervise SLPA in direct patient care and patient-related activities.
Requirements
  • A master's level program in speech-language pathology accredited by the Speech-Language Pathology Educational Standards Board or whose course work and practice meet ASHA certification.
  • Minimum of one year working with adult and adolescent populations, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Licensed by the state of Texas in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Certified in AHA BLS.
  • Maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility.
