Houston, Texas, United States Transocean Ltd. Full time
Company Overview

Transocean Ltd. is dedicated to being the premier employer in the drilling sector.

We continuously strive to enhance our company's performance through innovative technologies and a deep commitment to our work.

Position Summary
The Subsea Lead Engineer is tasked with the creation, refinement, and presentation of precise, comprehensive, and cost-efficient scopes of work for Reactivations and Out of Service projects, whether they are current or prospective.
These scopes must ensure that the rig adheres to all contractual, regulatory, regional, and internal company standards.
In this capacity, the Subsea Lead Engineer oversees all facets of the scope, including detailed cost estimation and adherence to the corporate Stage Gate Manual.
Developing these scopes necessitates extensive collaboration with Engineering, Technical Field Support, Marketing, Operations, and Supply Chain within the organization, as well as external parties such as shipyards, OEMs, vendors, regulatory bodies, and classification societies. The primary deliverables from the planning lead to the execution lead are the workpacks and associated procedures.
Scope development also demands substantial experiential knowledge of subsea equipment, vendor performance history, potential failure points, and vendor capabilities.
Travel to work sites, both onshore and offshore, may be required, potentially up to 40% of the year, and the individual must be prepared to oversee the execution of the scope during the Project Execution phase.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of project planning for Subsea systems and equipment, including scope identification, definition, cost estimation, and work pack development.
  • Formulate work packs and procedures for handover to Project Execution.
  • Coordinate and supervise OEMs and third-party contributors for surveys, site visits, and vendor oversight.
  • Conduct site visits to rigs, shipyards, and vendor facilities as necessary to support project planning.
  • Collaborate with OEMs and third-party contributors on project estimating and cost reduction strategies.
  • Maintain communication and interface with internal engineering stakeholders for scope validation.
  • Plan and monitor project procurements alongside project managers and internal purchasing teams.
  • Contribute to Marketing Bid Support efforts by providing well-defined work scopes and accurate cost estimates for Project Cost Workbooks and Reactivation Cost Workbooks.
  • Foster strong working relationships with operations teams relevant to assigned projects.
Qualifications
  • Formal technical or engineering training or a degree in Engineering (B.S. or M.S.). Relevant work experience may substitute for formal certification.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with an offshore drilling contractor or major subsea equipment manufacturer.
Skills
  • Experience in Offshore or Marine Projects is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of project management techniques, including planning, budget control, contract administration, and resource management.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and critical thinking skills.
  • Able to adapt to frequent changes and manage competing demands.
  • Capable of performing under pressure and delivering high-quality work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Able to interpret MODU technical documentation, including General Arrangement Drawings, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Structural Drawings, and Electrical Schematics.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of accountability and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
Working Conditions
Work is conducted in corporate offices as well as at various worksite locations, including onboard rigs and in shipyards globally. The Project Lead may be required to work beyond 40 hours per week, including weekends.

Pre-Requisites
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check.
If you are driven to achieve excellence, Transocean is committed to developing your career.
