Position Overview:
The Pediatric Echocardiography Specialist is responsible for conducting high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations and providing expert support services in the field of Pediatric Cardiology.
This role encompasses performing both inpatient and outpatient pediatric echocardiograms, ranging from neonatal to adult congenital heart disease, for which the individual has proven competency through formal education, hands-on experience, and certification. The position reports to the Cardiac Services Manager and collaborates closely with pediatric cardiologists.
Services are provided during standard business hours (7:00 am – 4:00 pm) with additional rotating emergency call coverage as needed.
Qualifications:
- Current certification in Pediatric Echocardiography as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI, or an equivalent certification is mandatory.
- Ongoing education and maintenance of certification requirements are essential.
- Graduation from an accredited program is preferred but not mandatory.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 30 days of employment.
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of one year of full-time experience in pediatric echocardiography is preferred, though not required.
- Familiarity with standard practices and procedures in this specialty is expected.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment to acquire optimal diagnostic information during examinations.
- Effective communication skills with patients and healthcare teams, recognizing the unique nature of sonographic assessments and patient needs.
- Capability to adhere to established departmental protocols.
- Adept at working efficiently and managing emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct high-quality inpatient and outpatient pediatric echocardiograms in accordance with IAC guidelines and established protocols.
- Perform echocardiograms for inpatient neonates.
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring precision and peak performance.
- Review patient medical histories to gather necessary information for diagnostic procedures.
- Prepare preliminary reports for review by Pediatric Cardiologists, including comparisons with previous studies.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and maintain the integrity of all corporate-related activities.
- Demonstrate a commitment to meeting patient needs through friendly and attentive interactions, ensuring a secure and pleasant experience.
