This role involves the creation and execution of tailored education plans (IEPs), working collaboratively with fellow educators, and promoting both academic and personal development for students with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the specific needs of students with disabilities.
- Modify and adapt instructional materials to meet various learning preferences and requirements.
- Deliver direct instruction in academic subjects, social skills, and daily living skills.
- Work in partnership with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educational staff to ensure a unified educational experience.
- Evaluate and track student progress, adjusting teaching methods as necessary.
- Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of student achievements, attendance, and behavioral records.
- Engage in regular communication with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and concerns.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and ongoing professional development.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and learning.
- Implement effective behavior management techniques and interventions as required.
- Stay updated on current best practices in special education and adhere to relevant state and federal guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Special Education endorsement.
- Experience working with students with diverse disabilities, including learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
- Familiarity with Illinois special education laws and regulations, including IDEA.
- Strong skills in communication, collaboration, and organization.
- Ability to utilize assessment data to guide instruction and monitor student progress.
- Experience with assistive technology and other educational tools is advantageous.
Certifications and Licensure:
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Special Education endorsement.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred).
Working Conditions:
- This position is primarily conducted in a classroom environment.
- May involve interaction with students facing physical or emotional challenges.
- Occasional travel for meetings and professional development may be necessary.
